5 Ways To Strengthen Your Willpower

Where there is a will there is a way…but do you feel like you just don’t have the will?  Willpower is not something that is only available to a select genetically gifted elite few.

However, nobody has an unlimited supply and those “lucky” people just know how to use it more efficiently.  The good news is, you can learn how to too!

If you feel like you can never say no to dessert or habitually  feel too “lazy” to workout, chances are that have been depleting your willpower.

5 Ways To Strengthen (and Replenish) Your Willpower:
    1. SLEEP - not getting enough sleep means your body is working overtime just trying to survive.  Don’t expect one good night of sleep to make up for it either!  If you want to thrive, get in your all your zzz’s on a regular basis (Tip - Set an alarm to go to bed early and don’t hit the snooze button)
    2. SIMPLIFY - too many decisions in a day is literally exhausting you. You may have used up all your decision-making capacity before you even got to work today!  Make room for the unplanned decisions by scheduling & planning your everyday choices (ie - set out your clothes for work tomorrow the night before)
    3. NOURISH - feed your body the nutrients it needs to function properly.  We get it…if you can’t say no to junk food in the first place, how is this one going to work out.  Remove temptation when you can, be aware of mindless snacking, increase healthy options (even if it including veggies at 1 meal to start) and again…plan ahead
    4. DE-STRESS - the kids are screaming, you’re mortgage payment is due this week, the cat is suddenly sick and the hot water heat just broke.  Life gets stressful no matter how much you plan to avoid problems.  Self-care is not a luxury, it is a necessity.  Regularly give yourself the time to unwind, whether it is a hobby, laughing with friends or just closing the door and stopping for 60 seconds and take a deep breaths before you reach crisis mode
    5. LOW-IMPACT - exercise is recommended to improve your health.  However, they type of exercise you choose is just as important.  A side-effect of daily super-charged cardio workouts can be adrenal fatigue (a contributing factor to willpower depletion).  Slow down the pace and balance out your workouts with low-impact barre practice to stretch and strengthen your muscles
